Apply up to two taxes to a product

Add a second tax to any product, such as GST + PST or GST + QST, and see each tax itemized at checkout.

Any product can carry up to two taxes — for example GST + PST, GST + QST, a single HST, or any pair you define. Each tax is calculated separately and shows by name wherever tax appears, so your pricing matches your tax rules exactly.

Add a second tax to a product

  1. Open the product and go to its tax field.

  2. Pick your first tax.

  3. Click Add tax and pick the second tax.

A tax you've already chosen is hidden from the other row, so you can't add the same tax twice.

What staff see at checkout

The cart shows a tax total that expands into each named tax with its rate, so staff can answer "what's this charge?" at a glance.

Want the same taxes on every new product of a type? Set Category Tax Defaults under Settings → Taxes.

FAQ

How are multiple taxes calculated?

Each tax is calculated on the same base price and the amounts are added together. Taxes don't compound on each other.

What about products with a single tax?

They keep working exactly as before. A single tax is simply a list of one.

Do payments and refunds handle multiple taxes?

Yes. Payments and refunds split correctly across every tax on the item.

I added a second tax to an existing membership. What happens for current members?

Your new tax setup carries straight through to renewals. Existing members see both taxes itemized on their next renewal invoice automatically — there's no need to re-sell or re-create memberships.
