Passing Credit Card, Debit Card, and ACH Fees to Your Customers

How to set up a processing fee that's passed along to your customers, split by payment method and by online (consumer) or back office payments.

Bond can add a processing fee to your customers' payments, so your facility doesn't absorb the full cost of card or ACH processing. The fee shows on the customer's invoice as its own line item.

How to request a fee

Fees are set up by the Bond team. To get started, email your Customer Success rep and CC customersuccess@bondsports.co. Include:

  • The fee percentage for each payment method you want to charge (Credit, Debit, and/or ACH)

  • Where it applies: consumer (online) payments, back office payments, or both

  • Which locations it should apply to, if you have more than one

Your rep will confirm once the fee is active.

What can be configured

Split by payment method

Bond identifies whether a payment is made with a credit card, debit card, or ACH, so each can have its own fee. For example:

  • Credit card: 3.5%

  • Debit card: 3.5%

  • ACH: 1%

You can also choose to pass along a fee on only one method (for example, credit cards only). Cash and check payments never have a processing fee.

Split by consumer or back office

Consumer and back office fees are set up separately:

  • Consumer: payments your customers make online, such as program registrations, league and tournament payments, event registrations, and rental invoice payments.

  • Back office: payments your staff take on behalf of a customer in Bond.

A consumer fee applies to all online payment types, not just one product type. Make sure your team is aligned on this before it's turned on.

Commerce / Point of Sale

A fee can also be passed along on Commerce / Point of Sale purchases made on the card terminal. However, the price has to be set before the card is tapped or swiped, and the payment method isn't known until that moment. Because of this, card-on-terminal fees can't be split by payment method: credit and debit cards will be charged the same fee.

POS fees are set up separately from online fees, so you can pass a fee along online without affecting in-person sales, or vice versa.

Finding your current processing rates

To see what Stripe is charging your facility for processing, check your Bond Sports contract. If you can't find it, your Customer Success rep can send you a copy. Many facilities use these rates to decide what percentage to pass along.

A note on compliance

Rules on surcharging credit, debit, prepaid, and ACH payments vary by state. Please confirm that the fees you plan to pass along are allowed where you operate before requesting setup.
